Stealing this story directly from slashdot, slashdot’s user keen writes “The first GPS 2R-M satellite has launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida on top of a Boeing Delta 2 rocket. The government is now competing with Europe’s Galileo system, and has added two additional military channels and one civilian channel, which will increase the accuracy and performance of GPS - as well as increase its resistance to jamming.”

allpointsblog points to an small explanation of fake maps being loaded into cheap GPS devices in Shanghai. From the article: «An increasing number of drivers in Shanghai are having trouble getting to their destinations when they rely on their car’s GPS navigation system because many electronic maps installed are fake». Could this happen elsewhere?

I was under the impression ArcIMS would be replaced by the “Portal” solution but it seems new extensions for ArcIMS are still coming out …

Could you please share with us any insights you have as for ESRI webmapping strategy in the next couple of years? Any leads on how ESRI’s planning to address the Google maps/earth revolution would be very appreciated …
